|
The students of the United World College in Mostar took part in the state wide high schools’ project “Volunteer –Credit” for the first time. The project is organized by the association Infohouse from Sarajevo and gathered more than 2000 students from 100 high schools all over Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project is consisted of the two sections: “Social Day” and “Fair of Ideas”. The first part was held on 9th of October and it is worth to note that UWCiM was the host of the event for the City of Mostar. The big gathering of students involved in “Social Day” in Mostar was organized on the Spanish square, where all the participants were addressed by Mostar mayor Mr. Ljubo Bešlić. From there they all went to various firms and institutions where they spent a working day earning at least 15 KM, later to be paid to project’s common fund. The UWCiM’s 22 students spent their working day in various organizations including OSCE Mission to BiH, Cantonal Ministry of Justice, Museum of Herzegovina, Fortuna Tourist Agency, “Pavarotti” Music Centre, Centre “Los Rosales” and Primary school with children with special needs.
The next stage of the project will be organizing the “Fair of Ideas” in Sarajevo in November where all the schools will present the projects that they would like to implement in the future period. The three best projects will be funded from the common fund. The purpose of the project “Volunteer –Credit” is to demonstrate that the young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina are ready to work together to create common good for the mutual benefit. The UWCiM is planning to apply with the project of multicultural understanding, still to be fully developed by the November’s “Fair of Ideas”
